Mason County Release Records Explained
A release is a recorded custody event, not one fixed legal result. A person may leave the Mason County Detention Center after bond, recognizance, dismissal, acquittal, time served, sentence expiration, probation, shock probation, parole, or conditional discharge. Someone may instead go to another jail, Kentucky Department of Corrections custody, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody. An escape is also a departure event, but it is not an ordinary release. The exact wording in the source record controls.
Three records may be needed. The jail transaction can show when someone left and may state a reason or destination. A signed court order explains the legal authority, such as bond, dismissal, sentence credit, or probation. A receiving or supervising system shows what came next. That system could be Kentucky Offender Online Lookup, commonly called KOOL, the local Probation and Parole office, another jail, BOP, or ICE. The order time and the physical exit time can differ because staff may still need to check identity, payment, other holds, and property.
Key terms: Parole is conditional release before a sentence ends. Probation is court-ordered community supervision. Discharge means the stated custody or supervision duty has ended. Time served means credited custody satisfies the custodial term stated by the court.
Mason County Inmate Release Types
The next search depends on the event. Bond normally ends the jail stay while the case continues. A dismissal resolves a named charge but does not clear an unrelated hold. Parole moves a qualifying state prisoner into supervised community status. A transfer ends the Mason roster entry while custody continues elsewhere. The table keeps those outcomes distinct.
| Recorded event | What it means | Best next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or release pending case | The jail stay ends while the case remains open. | Jail departure transaction and signed bond or release order |
| Dismissal or acquittal | The stated charge is resolved, subject to any other hold. | Court disposition plus jail departure record |
| Time served or sentence expiration | The custodial part reaches its recorded end. | Judgment and credit record plus jail or DOC discharge |
| Probation or parole | The person is in the community under stated terms. | Court order, KOOL, District 15, or Parole Board record |
| Transfer or detainer pickup | The person left Mason but remains with another agency. | Jail movement record and receiving-agency confirmation |
| Mandatory reentry supervision | A Kentucky statutory release route distinct from a parole grant. | KOOL, DOC record, and KRS 439.3406 context |
Mason County Release Record Fields
Mason County publishes no local field dictionary and no online release archive. A focused request should identify the person and approximate stay, then ask for the existing booking/release sheet or jail movement record. The agency need not create a new report. The fields below are useful request targets only. Not every Mason record is guaranteed to contain each one.
| Field to request | What it may show |
|---|---|
| Recorded name and booking identifier | Links the event to the correct jail stay. |
| Admission date and arresting agency | Identifies when and through whom custody began. |
| Charge or hold entries | Shows recorded bases tied to that stay. |
| Release date and time | Documents the jail-management departure transaction, if maintained. |
| Release reason or authority | Preserves the jail's exact label rather than an assumption. |
| Destination or receiving agency | Separates community release from a transfer. |
| Bond, receipt, or order reference | Connects the jail event to supporting authority when kept in the file. |
| Booking photograph | May be requested as a separate existing record. |
If no single release sheet exists, ask which booking, movement, discharge, or jail-management record documents departure. Request an electronic copy and a cost estimate before reproduction. A court record should be sought separately because the jail transaction does not itself prove the final case result.
Request Mason County Release Records
Start with the Mason County Detention Center at 702 US 68, Maysville, KY 41056, or call 606-564-3621. The current county page lists Lisa Yeary as jailer and public office hours Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The jail operates around the clock. Confirm names and office hours before a visit.
- Give the recorded name, known identifier, and a narrow date range.
- Ask for the existing booking/release sheet or movement entry that shows departure.
- Request the recorded date, time, event label, authority, and destination if those fields are maintained.
- Ask for electronic delivery and a cost estimate before copies are made.
- If a formal response is needed, submit a written Kentucky Open Records Act request and keep the response.
Under KRS 61.880, a public agency generally must respond in writing within five business days by granting access, explaining a denial, or stating why more time is required with the earliest available date. KRS 61.874 permits reasonable copy charges. No Mason jail-specific release-record fee or retention term was published in the research. Do not assume a fixed price or that a former entry stays online.
The Kentucky DOC open-records page is the separate route for state correctional records. Its inmate-record email route is not a substitute for a Mason jail request. It asks requesters to provide identifiers and warns that requests sent to the wrong unit can slow the response.
The captured DOC page shows why local jail records and state correctional records should be directed to the office that created each one.
Mason County Bond Release Steps
Mason's legacy bond page divides cash-bond processing by time. It directs weekday payments for Mason charges to the Mason County Circuit Court Clerk at 100 West Third Street from 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., then tells the payer to carry the receipt to the detention center. After closing, on holidays, and on weekends, it directs payment to MCDC with valid identification and exact cash. The page states an added $25 fee and says the jail makes no change.
Those instructions are useful local context, but the source is old. Call the clerk or jail before relying on the hours, payment type, or fee. A paid bond does not mean the case ended, nor does the receipt time necessarily equal the exit time. Other holds and jail processing can delay or prevent departure.
The legacy Mason bond instructions show the two payment routes.
The screenshot is evidence of the published procedure, not proof that its details remain current for a particular release.
Mason Release Funds Follow-Up
The current detention FAQ supplies a specific after-release process. A former detainee may call on the next business day about a possible refund or commissary balance. If money remains, a check may be mailed to the address recorded in the jail system. This account step comes after release and does not prove the reason or exact time of departure.
If the address is wrong, the FAQ identifies extension 12 as the correction route. When no one answers, it asks the caller to leave a detailed message that includes the call's date and time. The release transaction remains the right record for the custody event.
Mason Release Balance Deductions
The detention FAQ states that jail debt is deducted from a possible former-inmate refund or commissary balance before any remaining check is mailed. It does not identify the types of debt, set out rates, or publish a broad release-fee schedule. Those details should not be inferred.
For a person-specific balance, ask MCDC what existing account record can be provided and whether a check was due. Keep that inquiry separate from the release-record request. One concerns funds after the jail stay. The other documents how and when custody changed.
Mason Release Orders and Exit
The detention-center page directs readers to Kentucky court dockets, while the legacy bond page places the Circuit Court Clerk in the weekday process. That local pairing illustrates a vital rule: the signed court order establishes legal authority, while the jail transaction establishes execution. Search Mason District Court for many misdemeanor matters, early felony steps, and bond activity. Search Circuit Court for felony indictments, judgments, and sentences.
CourtNet may require authentication or a subscription, and document access can depend on role or fee. Confidential, sealed, and expunged matters have access limits. A docket entry can show that an order was entered, but it cannot establish the exact minute a person crossed the jail door. Likewise, “case closed” is not a release status. Another case, warrant, detainer, or administrative step may still control custody.
The official Kentucky court docket route is linked by the Mason detention page.
The docket interface helps locate the case, but a file-stamped clerk copy is the authoritative form of the order.
Find Mason County Released Inmates
Begin with custody class, not a broad name guess. A county-only bond release may never appear in KOOL. A state inmate housed at Mason may move to a prison. Federal pretrial custody is not covered by the BOP sentenced-prisoner locator. Follow the sources in an order that tests present custody first, then departure and destination.
- Check the official Mason current roster. A match indicates a present listing, subject to data lag.
- If absent, call MCDC and ask whether the record says release or transfer, plus the recorded date, time, and destination.
- Search Kentucky VINE by name or jail/DOC identifier. Match the person and facility before using a release date.
- Use KOOL for a state felony sentence, DOC placement, parole, probation, or transfer.
- Check both Mason court levels and obtain the signed order that authorized the change.
- For federal matters, use BOP for sentenced prisoners, the docket and holding facility for pretrial custody, and ICE ODLS when immigration custody is plausible.
- Submit a focused request when the online trail remains unclear.
Why did the name vanish? The roster is a current-inmate list. Absence can mean release, transfer, spelling trouble, a recent update, or data lag.
Match at least two supplied details for a common name, such as a booking or DOC number, date of birth, case number, offense, conviction county, or facility. Preserve each source's date label. Booking date, order date, release transaction date, supervision start, parole eligibility, and projected release are not interchangeable.
Mason Released Inmate KOOL Search
Kentucky Offender Online Lookup is the public DOC search. It is most useful when Mason custody involved a state sentence, a state inmate housed locally, a DOC transfer, or community supervision. DOC says KOOL updates daily, does not guarantee all information, and may not finalize information less than 120 days old. A county detainee who bonded out may have no KOOL entry at all.
Start with a last name and a short first-name value. Search an alias when appropriate. Too many uncertain fields can suppress the right match. A known DOC or PID number is the strongest narrowing tool. Open each plausible detail page and give priority to current category, location, supervision dates, sentence fields, and identifiers. “Released To Other Agency (Probation & Parole)” points to community supervision, while a prison location points to continued confinement.
| KOOL search field | How it helps |
|---|---|
| Name, alias, DOC or PID number | Starts and confirms identity. |
| Supervision status and county | Narrows community records, including Mason supervision. |
| Location type and location | Separates a prison from a community office. |
| Conviction county, dates, offense, and KRS | Distinguishes people with similar names. |
| Institution start or supervision begin | Places the current state record on a timeline. |
| Projected release date range | Filters prospective sentence data, not an actual exit transaction. |
A KOOL detail may show “Parole,” supervision beginning and ending dates, and a community location even when its parole-history table is blank. Never translate that blank area into continued confinement. For an unclear recent entry, contact the District 15 Mason satellite at 101 East Second Street in Maysville, 606-564-5591, or request the relevant DOC record.
Mason Regional Release Record Problem
The Mason County Detention Center opened in 1990. Although the legacy site calls it regional, the current county name is Mason County Detention Center. It houses state inmates and detainees for Mason, Bracken, Fleming, and Lewis Counties. A roster match therefore does not prove a Mason prosecution, and a Mason case does not prove that the person remains physically in Mason.
This mix makes disappearance especially hard to interpret. The case court, physical jail, and next custodian can be three different offices. First identify the booking jurisdiction. Then obtain the Mason movement record. Finally check the receiving county, KOOL, or federal system named as the destination. When no destination is public, ask MCDC for the exact existing record rather than treating “not listed” as community release.
Mason Release Preparation Programs
Mason publishes several programs tied to release preparation. Its older program page says SAMAT begins two months before release and describes Portal New Direction life-skills work, a DOC-approved substance-abuse program, Moral Reconation Therapy, education, and judge-approved work release under jail rules. The current county page also discusses facility programs.
These are program descriptions, not a promise that a named person took part or that each service is still offered on the same terms. Verify current availability with the detention center. Program participation also does not prove a release date. Court authority, jail processing, sentence rules, discipline, and holds still determine the actual event.
Mason Release Alerts and Federal Checks
Kentucky VINE offers free custody-status search and notice through VINELink and by telephone at 800-511-1670. Search part of a name or a jail/DOC identifier, then compare identity and facility. Kentucky guidance says a released result may provide the date released. Yet VINE reports system events that can include release, transfer, or escape. Confirm any alert with MCDC, KOOL, a court order, or the receiving agency.
Federal paths differ. The BOP locator generally covers sentenced federal prisoners from 1982 forward and can display “RELEASED” with a date. That means the person is no longer in BOP custody, not that all custody or supervision ended. Federal pretrial defendants are held through the U.S. Marshals Service network, which has no public released-person locator. Use the federal docket, actual holding facility, and USMS records. ICE ODLS can show current detainees and people recently released from ICE custody within its stated, limited window. A move from Mason to ICE is a transfer, not community release.
The Kentucky State Police registry is a narrow check only for people legally required to register. It is not a general list of Mason County released inmates and does not establish a release date.
Mason Release Status Source Guide
No single search answers every custody question. Use the record made by the office responsible for the event, then check its limits before drawing a conclusion.
| Source | What it can establish | What it cannot prove alone |
|---|---|---|
| Mason current roster | A present public listing at MCDC | That absence equals release or a historical reason |
| MCDC release or movement record | Departure date, time, and recorded transaction if maintained | The complete court disposition |
| Mason court order | Bond, dismissal, sentence, probation, credit, or other authority | The precise physical exit time |
| KOOL and District 15 | State custody, location, category, supervision, and sentence data | A county-only bond release |
| VINE | A reported custody event and notification route | Guaranteed real-time physical location |
| BOP or ICE locator | The specific federal system's stated custody or recent-release information | Another agency's custody or all later supervision |
When sources conflict, preserve what each one actually says. Ask first whether the person is currently in that agency's custody. Next ask whether departure was release or transfer. Then request the recorded time and destination. This sequence prevents a general “not here” answer from becoming an unsupported release claim.
Mason Release Records After Expungement
Search access can change after sealing or expungement. KRS 431.076 provides automatic expungement after 30 days for certain acquittals and dismissals with prejudice entered on or after July 15, 2020, subject to exclusions and an objection route. KRS 431.073 provides a petition process for many listed Class D felonies after the required period tied to sentence or supervision completion. KRS 431.078 addresses eligible misdemeanors, violations, and traffic matters.
An expunged or sealed trail should not be rebuilt from stale copies. A no-result does not prove no custody event ever existed. It supports only that no matching public result appeared through the named sources on the date searched. Ask for lawful access to an identified existing record and respect any restriction the responsible agency applies.
Mason County Release Record Sources
The county and state systems serve different groups. The Mason County Detention Center holds local, regional, and some state inmates; its release or movement record documents departure from that jail. Kentucky Department of Corrections institutions and community supervision cover people sentenced to state custody or supervised by DOC. KOOL, District 15, and DOC records show that state path. Federal pretrial custody, sentenced BOP custody, and ICE custody require their own federal sources rather than either facility page.
