Mason County Booking Photo Meaning
A mugshot is a photograph made during the booking process. Kentucky regulations use mugshot and arrest-packet terms, but those rules do not make every image open without limit. The photograph remains subject to the Kentucky Open Records Act, the agency’s custody of the file, lawful exemptions, and any sealing or expungement that affects access.
The image records appearance at one point in time. It does not prove that the charge led to conviction. It also does not show when the person left custody. A current roster image, when present, supports identity matching for the displayed booking. The related release or movement entry is needed to establish a Mason County departure.
Use at least two matching details when possible. A name plus a booking number, case number, date of birth, booking date, or physical descriptor is stronger than a face alone. Images age, and different agencies may hold photographs made at different times.

Request Mason County Booking Photos
Send the request to Mason County Detention Center or the Jailer at 702 US 68, Maysville, KY 41056. The public phone is 606-564-3621 and fax is 606-564-3397. Confirm the preferred electronic channel first. The county does not publish a jail-specific booking-photo form, fee schedule, disclosure policy, or retention schedule.

- Ask for an electronic copy of the existing booking photograph associated with that specific stay.
- Request the booking/release or movement entry separately if release confirmation is also needed.

Mason County News Photo Limits
Local news and public-agency press releases may show a booking photograph for a notable event. A third-party copy may also remain online after the official roster changes. Those copies are not the Mason release record. They may use an old image, omit the booking date, confuse people with similar names, or remain visible after an official source is sealed or expunged.
No commercial mugshot publisher or data broker is needed as a primary source. If an outside image appears, trace it back to MCDC, Kentucky DOC, the court, or the government office that released it. Check the caption, publication date, booking jurisdiction, and case number. Do not infer guilt from the photograph or assume the person is still confined.
An official photo and official court order can still describe different facts. The picture documents appearance at booking. The court file documents legal proceedings. Kentucky Mugshot Payment Restrictions
KRS 61.8746 addresses commercial publication or use of a publicly obtained booking photo when removal requires payment or other consideration. It is not a blanket ban on all publication. It also does not create a separate right to demand disclosure from MCDC. The Open Records Act, agency custody, and applicable exemptions still control access.
The statute allows an affected person to seek relief in Circuit Court and addresses costs, fees, and possible damages. Avoid services that demand payment to remove an image. A request about an official source should go to the agency that controls the record, while a legal question about a private publication may require qualified counsel.
That notice does not change the central point: a booking photo is context-limited. Verify identity and status through current official records.
Expunged Mason County Mugshots
Expungement can reduce public visibility of the underlying court and arrest trail. Kentucky has different statutes for qualifying acquittals or dismissals, eligible felonies, and eligible misdemeanors or violations. Each route has its own conditions and exclusions. A sealed or expunged matter should not be rebuilt from cached images or private mirrors.
